Oil Change

How Often Should You Change Your Oil?

Your vehicle’s oil is essential to keeping you driving smoothly and efficiently on the Kyle roads. That’s why it’s imperative that you ensure that you regularly change your vehicle’s oil. How often should you change your oil? Advancements in vehicles over the last decade have now increased the recommended oil change frequency to about 7,500 to 10,000 miles, but you can always consult your owner’s manual for a more exact number. Learn about how often you should be changing your oil and other tips with the service department at South Point Dodge.

Oil Change Based on Driving Habits

As mentioned earlier, the general recommendation these days for oil change frequency is about 7,500 to 10,000 miles. If you’re unsure, you should consult your vehicle’s owner’s manual. Here are some other driving factors that can affect how often you should change your oil:

  • Off-roading
  • Commercial use
  • Racing
  • Heavy towing

If you do any of the above-mentioned driving in Round Rock, then you might have to change your oil more frequently than the recommendation in your owner’s manual.

Oil Change Tips

Now that you know the general amount of how often you should change your oil, here are some other oil tips that you should know to properly care for your vehicle:

  • Consult your owner’s manual to see if your vehicle needs synthetic oil or conventional oil. Though synthetic oil costs more than conventional oil, it lasts longer.
  • Even if you don’t drive your car through Cedar Park that often, you should still change your oil at least twice a year. Oil can still break down even if your vehicle isn’t in use often.
  • Whenever you do get your oil changed, make sure that the oil filter is also changed. If you’re more of a DIY driver, then you can easily order parts through our parts store online.

Oil Check Frequency

To ensure that your vehicle’s oil is good to go, you should check the oil at least once a month. When checking your oil, look for any changes in the color or texture of the oil. If the oil is low, then you can schedule a visit with our service center at South Point Dodge to get you back on the Austin roads in no time.
